My Story
Everyone has their own story on how they started their journey into Information Technology (IT).
Knowing me is knowing you, Ahaaa …!
I have a university degree in Computer Science, a diploma in telecommunications systems technology, and Post-graduate diploma in Health Informatics.
I am a Web Developer with various web development, and web content development skills. I have worked on multiple projects which I have posted on this website, and many more are just work-in-progress. I'm interested in working with the web programming languages used in both front-end and back-end technology stack.
This website has projects which demonstrates my skills in web development technology stack which includes HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript, Node.js, and React library and frameworks.
I have taken self-directed web programming tutorials from different online sources, and I will share my experience in the blog page.
My education background is in Information Technology and I have always wanted to use this education background to bring changes and improvements and make life better for humanity. Definitely, I would like to channel my IT skills into projects which will make difference in my life, in the workplace, and also in the community where I socialize with other people.
After completing my university program, I didn't get into the work that I wanted to do like network system administration because it was hard to get into these jobs since I didn't have much experience and professional IT credentials.
So, I took some certifications in Microsoft Certified Professional, Oracle Database Administration and Cisco networking, but some of the jobs I was getting had conditions on them that I had to move to another province. But I didn't want leave my community where I felt more secure and connected with the people in the community. This load block didn't stop me from trying out other areas of IT like Web development which I found to be more interesting, and this process helped me to discover my creativity and innovation.
So, when I was out of work some years ago after I had worked for a big Telcom company for 7 years in a Technical Support role, I took self-directed Web development skills and combined these skills with project management that I had acquired during my university and coop work placement jobs. I took training in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ReactJS), Bootstrap, and many other web design concepts. After I had acquired web development skills, I started to explore open source CMS applications like Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, and Magento where I discovered that I can use these CMS applications with less coding skills.
The community church Website
A community church announced that they needed a website where they could post events happening in the community and other activities in the church. The church wanted to get a volunteer who knows about website development, online content development, and I was able to get this website built besides my full-time day job.
I volunteered to work on this project because I had the skills, and knowledge of designing, building and maintaining a website which was needed for this community church. I have been managing this website which has been redesigned and updated with all the changes happening in web development technology. Managing this website has also helped me to be up-to-date with the latest web development technologies which includes changes in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript frameworks and libraries.
Headless CMS with Next.js Front-end
WordPress + WPGraphQL + Apollo Client + Next.js React Framework
I am currently exploring this architecture of combining these web development technologies and their benefits to website owners and end-user experience in these areas below.
- Improved Performance or Site Speeds
- Security implementation
- Flexibility and integration
